Jonathan (Jonny) Eric Haywood was born on February 1, 1973, in Orlando, FL to Raymond and Juanita Haywood and passed away at 48 years old on October 9, 2021, at St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale, WA after a month-long battle with COVID-19.
The Haywood's were a Navy family; in addition to Orlando, the family lived in La Maddelena, Sardinia, Italy; New London, CT; Dahlgren, VA, and finally settling in Poulsbo in 1982. Jonny graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1991 and ITT Technical Institute in 1998. For the past 5 years, he worked as an Engineering Specialist at Puget Sound Energy.
Jonny was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Haywood and sister, Cindy Mann. He is survived by his wife, Jamie Haywood; sons Dylan Haywood and Lathan Haywood; stepson, Ryan Osterman, all of Bremerton, WA. Other survivors include his father, Ray Haywood and stepmother, Judy Haywood of Poulsbo, WA; brother Ken (April) Haywood of Hansville, WA; sister Dianne (James) Mann Lewis of Appleton, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
Jonny's passion for family, work, and life, in general, were generously matched by his love of baseball (some called him "Jonny Baseball"); many Kitsap youth were drawn to the sport as Jonny injected both encouragement and positivity and made an impact on many players over his more than 12 years of coaching. He especially took pride in coaching his own sons to be the best that they could be. His passing has been viewed by many as a tremendous loss to the community.
Jonny Haywood was truly a friend to anyone and everyone he met, and he held the heartfelt desire to always give in any way he could.
A celebration of Jonny's life is planned for Spring 2022. In the meantime, in lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Jonny Haywood Memorial Fund that was set up by his family in his honor, to support one of Jonny's biggest passions – youth baseball. Together we can make sure all our local kids can have an opportunity to be a team member! https://bit.ly/haywood-memorial
