IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gordon Henry
Stenerson
September 23, 1943 – October 14, 2023
Gordon Henry Stenerson, Jr., a Kitsap County native and lifelong resident of Poulsbo, died on Saturday, October 14 of complications from Alzheimer's disease. Born in Bremerton and raised in the Gilberton area, Gordy was the son of Gordon and Virginia Stenerson and brother of Clyde and Charlie (Sandi). Gordy attended Brownsville Elementary and Central Kitsap Junior High and graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1961. He was an outstanding student and athlete and was a member of the football and track teams at Central Washington University. Mutual friends introduced Gordy to Jane Ann O'Ravez of Edgewood, Washington. Gordy and Jane graduated from CWU in 1964 with teaching degrees and married later that year at the home of Jane's parents in Edgewood. Gordy and Jane embarked together on their teaching careers, from Wenatchee to Vancouver, then to Kelso and ultimately Poulsbo, where he taught and coached at North Kitsap High School for 29 years. After retiring in 1997, he and Jane worked at the American Overseas School of Rome and then he taught for eight years at West Sound Academy in Poulsbo, during which time he and Jane hosted several international students. Gordy and Jane loved to travel and returned to Europe and also made frequent trips to favorite destinations in New England and Mexico.
Gordy is survived by his wife Jane of Poulsbo, children Shelby Quintos (Rob) of Portland, Erik (Danette) of Suquamish, and Jill of Poulsbo; and grandchildren Dalis Sierra, Diego Quintos, Carmen Quintos, Josiah Stenerson, Natalia Keim (Blake) and Silas Stenerson.
Beloved math teacher, brave driver's education instructor, motivating track coach, avid WSU and Mariners fan, a devout Christian and a light in the community, Gordy influenced and encouraged thousands of students over many years, was a friend to all and never met a project he didn't like!
"The spirit of a good man is never defeated."
Plans for a celebration of life will be announced soon.
