Obituary

Edward Harold Ides

Beloved husband, father,

brother, uncle & friend who will

be greatly missed

Edward (Ed) Harold Ides was born on May 19, 1946, in Camden, NJ and passed away

in the care of St. Michaels Medical Center in Silverdale, Washington on May 31, 2024,

after battling an illness. He was 78 years old.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward & Grace Ides of Beachwood, New

Jersey and his grandson, Alex Milinkov of Castle Rock, Colorado.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Kathrine (Kathy) Ides of Silverdale,

Washington, his two daughters and son-in law, Stefani Ides-Barry of Littleton, Colorado

and Wendi Milinkov and her husband Scott Milinkov, also of Littleton, Colorado, his

grandson Alex's wife, Emma Milinkov and his two great-grandchildren Ava & Brooks, his

second grandson, Tanner Milinkov and his wife Haley Milinkov plus his three sisters and

their spouses, Debby & Lou Osborn of Avondale, Arizona, Barbara & Robert Coraleski

of Toms River, New Jersey, and JoAnn and Frank Montarelli of Lakewood, Colorado

plus his wife's daughter & her husband & family, Erin & Dan Davignon of Kingston,

Washington plus, numerous nieces & nephews in Arizona, Colorado, Tennessee, New

Jersey and Minnesota will all miss his jovial personality and mourn his passing.

Ed's sisters recalled how charming he was as a young man with a winning laugh and a

smile that would melt his mother's heart. All the siblings shared dish-washing duty as a

chore, so when it was Ed's turn, he loved to splash his mom, or snap a wet-towel in her

direction causing his mom to chase him to his room all while exclaiming "Eddie Ides, get

out of this kitchen". Ed would laugh the whole time knowing he was getting out of the

dish chore, all while having fun!

Ed also had a sense of adventure and spent his summers lifeguarding in Seaside

Heights on the Jersey shore, racing his father's car through the Jersey Pine Barrens at

top speed or drag racing on the Garden State Parkway. Ed's love of the ocean and cars

continued throughout his lifetime.

At 19, Ed joined the Air Force and was stationed all over the world from Alabama, to

Korea, to Panama, where his daughters were born. After being honorably discharged

from the Air Force in the early 1970s, Ed and his young family moved back to the United

States where he took advantage of the GI bill and worked toward a degree. The family

lived from New Jersey, to Minnesota, to Iowa, to Missouri, to Kansas, to South Dakota,

and finally to Silverdale, Washington. Over the years he taught his daughters how to

fish, take care of animals, love their dog, Monzo, garden, fly high in the huge swing in

the big oak tree, build things, work hard, get an education, enjoy the sweat equity of

doing remodeling projects around the house just because it was fulfilling and fostered

their love of a great cup of coffee.

After his daughters were finished with college and had settled in Littleton, Colorado, Ed

moved to Hays, Kansas to be nearer to them and to his job hauling compressed gas

with a Semi-truck for a distributer in western Kansas. While in Hays, Ed started sending

the sweetest and beautiful hand-written letters to Kathy whom he had known for most of

their adult lives and reconnected through those letters. Ed & Kathy married in August

1998. They soon moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota where Kathy was an

Occupational Therapist and Ed sold real estate all while continuing to tinker with his old

cars and remodel their log cabin under the supervision of Gidget, his beloved dog.

When not tinkering or remodeling, he and Gidget would explore the trails of the Black

Hills or Gidget would sit at the feet of Ed and Kathy while they watched television or

grilled out on their expansive deck.

Ed retired in the early 2000s and he & Kathy relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 2011

to be near family. They settled on the Kitsap Peninsula on the west side of Puget Sound

in Silverdale, Washington. As Ed was near the ocean again, he would take his dog, Ole

with him while he cherished his time out on the water where he was a prolific "crabber"

and fisherman. Ed continued to tinker with old cars with many different vehicles moving

in and out of his collection. Ed also gardened and often produced too many tomatoes to

handle! In his retirement, Ed, continued to be a jack of all trades, whether it was fixing

the lawnmower or his old collector cars, remodeling the houses he owned, driving

around town with his dog Ole to look at real estate, or building something as simple as a

birdhouse. Ed thoroughly enjoyed spending time with friends to chat about politics, what

was going on in town, old cars, or just good old times from their youth.

Ed will always be remembered by his friends and family for his wit, his charming smile,

his laugh, his intelligence, his bearded good looks, and his perseverance. As his family,

we want everyone to have a final vision of Ed driving his pickup truck with all three of his

beloved dogs toward that secret fishing hole in heaven. Ed's memorial service will be

held later this summer where his ashes will be spread in places he designated. The

family would like to thank Simplicity Cremation of Poulsbo, Washington for their care of

Ed during this time of mourning.
